What does it cost to raise a child with special needs in Canada?
As the Offord Centre’s Dr. Stelios Georgiades mentions in a new article from Today’s Parent, there is not very much high-quality data available to answer that question. His long-term study of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) across 5 provinces. The next phase of this study will include a health economist helping to measure the expenses associated with ASD. Having more information on the costs involved may give parents and care providers better tools with which to lobby governments for improved funding and access to services.
